Thumbnailing for the Next Maritime Painting

Here's a quick video of the thumbnailing process I use to work out perspective, placement, background, lighting, and values. It's very rough - I didn't use references to guide me - it's more about getting a feel for where I go with the painting. This will likely be the first of a bunch of thumbails as I get closer to creating something I'll be satisfied with. By the end, I hope to have a series of 10 or 12 paintings of Lakes class freighters that will ultimately tell the story of their history in Buffalo, NY, where a number of them were built.
